As of November 2014 there is a new pathway for those who have experienced sexual abuse as children or adults. The new ACC service is designed to make it easier for people to access help in a timely manner and make it more user friendly and less stressful. A significant development is that you can now choose who you can see for assistance. In the past counsellors were the main providers of talking therapy under the ACC sensitive claims system. Now, you are able to choose to see a Clinical Psychologist, counsellor of psychotherapist.
The advantage of seeing a Clinical Psychologist is that we won’t need to involve other clinicians for different aspects of the claim process (i.e. initial support sessions, assessment and treatment). Our experience suggests that clients do not want to have to repeat their story to multiple professionals. This may be required if you see a counsellor or psychotherapist who is not registered to complete all aspects of the claims process.
Working with a Clinical Psychologist from Talkingpoint means you will have the same clinician from the time you make first contact with our service till you are discharged. Our experienced team have worked with thousands of individuals who have been affected by sexual abuse/assault. We hope we are able to continue supporting people as they seek help managing their recovery. We are happy to talk through the process with you.
